Happy Halloween

Halloween Fright

There's something eerie lurking about.
Does it walk, does it crawl,
Does it slither around?
The wind rustles the leaves, or was something
Behind me? Is it far, is it near, is it
Sneaking up on me?
My heart pounds ever so fast, as fear trickles
Down my spine. The moon casts shadows on the
Corners and trees, could there be something
Hiding? Waiting to jump out at me?
Screeches and howls- giggles and screams.
Almost to the door,
Nothing is what it seems.
I feel a hand on my shoulder
And let out a scream.
I slowly turn just to see,
And in a sigh of relief...
It's only a group of Trick or Treaters!
Seems the trick was on me!!!!

Devil’s night

Don’t go out on Devil’s Night.
Stay in your bed and keep on the light.
Little demons and ghouls have their fun all right,
outside on the streets this Devil’s Night.
You don’t want to know what mischief they cause.
On Halloween Eve they run without pause,
flying and laughing, and breaking the laws,
you really don’t want to see the mischief they’ve caused.
Please heed my words, stay under the covers,
and tell your friends and your sisters, and of course your brothers.
Stay in bed, don’t even peek through the shutters,
’cause a goblin or ghost may spook you to stutters.
Just wait until daybreak on Halloween Day,
when you know all the ghouls and ghosts are away.
They hate the daylight, “it’s no fun,” they say.
So just please, please wait to Trick or Treat on Halloween Day.

Haunted House

There’s a house upon the hilltop
We will not go inside
For that is where the witches live,
Where ghosts and goblins hide.
Tonight they have their party,
All the lights are burning bright,
But oh we will not go inside
The haunted house tonight.
The demons there are whirling
And the spirits swirl about.
They sing their songs to Halloween.
“Come join the fun,” they shout.
But we do not want to go there
So we run with all our might
And oh we will not go inside
The haunted house tonight.

Rejuvinate old wicker furniture, cane furniture

Over a period of time wicker furniture and cane furniture can become out of shape. This is generally due to the cane or wicker stretching. Here are a few tips for rejuvenating your wicker or cane items:

If your cane or wicker chair is starting to sag then sponge the cane with a hot solution of half vinegar and half water. Place the chairs out in the hot sun to dry. You will find that the sag will tighten up.

You can also use hot soapy water that has a cup of salt added. Then leave the furniture to dry in the sun for a few hours.

Even the following will work. If your old wicker is looking and feeling a little saggy, all you have to do is wet down the furniture and let it dry in the sun.

With all of these tips the heat will shrink the wicker or cane which will put back the stiffness creating a better look and feel for those nice warn nights on the porch!

Oiling hinges

If your hinges are getting a bit squeaky, you should use vaseline over the hinge letting it work in as you open and close the door. Vaseline won't run like oil so there is very little mess at all!

Nailing plaster. Tips for banging a nail into plaster

When putting nails in the plaster in your home, often you will get cracks and big holes. You can put nails in plaster without cracks easily when you heat up the nails you are putting in the plaster walls. Boiling them, or using a flame, hot nails go into plaster like butter.

Maintain your drains to prevent blockages

Prevention is better than cure. Constant care of your home is always going to be needed, that is why you are the handy man! (or woman!) To keep your drains flowing freely for years, boil a pan of water and pour it down your drains. Doing this once a week is going to help prevent any clogs from forming in your drains.

Maintaining on a regular basis could save you money later down the line.

To maintain a clean and clear drain in the tub or in the sinks in your bathroom, put a piece of nylon over the drain (that you can easily change weekly or monthly) so that no hair or pieces of soap can get down your drain at all!
